How to avoid the 2024 insurance tobacco surcharge
During the open enrollment period in the fall of 2023, employees enrolled in the NSM medical plan will be asked to attest to their Tobacco use status which will determine if you pay the tobacco surcharge starting on January 1, 2024.
Open enrollment will begin in late October of 2023 for our 2024 benefit enrollments.  To avoid a smoking surcharge in 2024 you must be smoke free for 3 (three) months prior to the open enrollment.
If you have not been tobacco free for 3 (three) months before open enrollment, you will want to complete one of the smoking cessations programs by open enrollment through your UMR login, or Kaiser login depending on which plan you are enrolled in.
